VINTAGE TULIP - Divan Room Tulip Shaped Ring
|Size:||Approx. 25mm x 20mm as seen from the top.|
The Divan Room is therefore a symbol of power in the Turkish and Persian tradition.
A casual look at the Vintage Tulip Ring might give rise to the idea that it is a unique ring and little more. A casual look is not enough.
The first thing to notice is that the Vintage Tulip Ring is a custom designed ring in every detail. Do not value it according to the parameters of mass produced jewelry that might as well be made with a 3D printer. The value goes way beyond the value of the gemstones and precious metals: this is a one-of-a-kind fruit of the creativity of one of the few masters who inherited the spirit of one of the most intriguing jewelry traditions in the world. Turkey, since before the beginning of recorded history, has watched civilizations rise and fall, it has done business with the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians to name a few and has soaked the stories and the passions of people that have seen it all, including the wonders of the world that have since gone lost.
With the history of our civilizations floating in the background a couple of pieces of inspiration inspired the designer and mixed in a couple of ideas that signify the strength and power of the deepest loves and passions. The tulip is a Turkish flower, a beautiful flower that requires many years to just go from seed to bulb, is the flower that once imported into Europe ignited a craze for the Semper Augustus in the 16th century culminating in the 1637 tulip mania when, reportedly, but hard to confirm with accuracy, a single flower cost a skilled artisan’s ten years' salary. Today the tulip symbolizes passionate love. It is a little cheaper but just as beautiful.
The Divan Room was the seat of power in Persian and Ottoman empires. That is where the Council of Ministers met: the sultan or the vezir sat in the middle and the ministers sat around him according to their titles. When I look at the Vintage Tulip Ring and admire the diamond cut and seated in the center I think of it as the soul of the ring and of the wearer. That is where the talents of the ring owner reside and they make the people around him flourish as represented by the small diamonds that surround it. Everything is surrounded by tulips which nurture, with their passionate love, the goals and aspirations of the ring owner.
This is my one-of-a-kind conversation with an object that has come alive for me. If it were mine it would remind me of my passions and my lifelong affections and aspirations--everything that is dear to me. It would also remind me to stay true to them and not to let distractions lead me astray. It might inspire you something similar, completely different, or nothing at all. To me, that is the the beauty and valor or one-of-a-kind designer jewelry.
